Richard White
Richard has more than 27 years of experience in technology companies. He is currently the President and CEO of Elliptic Semiconductor Inc.(www.ellipticsemi.com), a leading provider of embedded security IP. Richard was a former CEO of Solidum and Accelerix and acted as a contract CEO to Intelligent Photonics Control and Spectalis. He has provided consultant services to a number of technology companies including Seaway Networks, Wavesat and Ad Opt. Richard started his career as a semiconductor engineer during the early days of Mitel. He has also worked at NovAtel Communications, Extreme Packet Devices and Enhance Systems in a variety of senior management roles. He holds a B. Eng Electrical Engineering from Carleton and an Executive MBA from Harvard.
Duane Sharman
Duane has been involved in the wireless industry since 1984, first with NovAtel Communications, and later as founder and President of Isotel Research Ltd and chairman of Wmode Inc. (www.wmode.com). Duane founded Isotel Research in 1992 to provide software services and products to manufacturers of advanced handsets and infrastructure products. Isotel's communications software products are incorporated in products developed by Motorola, Mitsubishi, Nortel, Panasonic, Denso, among others. Isotel was sold to DSP Communications in 1998, and Duane continued with DSP Communications in a management capacity. Intel subsequently purchased DSP Communications. He is currently actively involved as a business advisor and investor with several high technology companies.
Duane is the inventor of several patents in the field of wireless technology, relating to system architectures for data services and innovative wireless features. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Calgary.
Rich Kerr
Rich joined Public Wireless (www.publicwireless.com ) in March 2009 and has been in the communications industry for more than 25 years. Rich has served in various roles in the semiconductor industry from engineering, technology development, and management. While at Qualcomm, he was tasked with the initial CDMA system development and ASIC design. In 1995, after successfully delivering the technology, he was promoted to the General Manager of the ASIC division which he ran and grew from startup to over $650M in revenue, and which is now Qualcomm QCT, the most successful division at Qualcomm. He also became the technology leader for the Qualcomm handset division, designing successful products and businesses. In 2001, he retired to private consulting, where he was on staff to many companies, such as Zyray Wireless (later sold to Broadcomm), Equitek Capital, Sunbridge Ventures and YXI Technologies. Recently he was in Business development for Nextwave Wireless.
Rich holds degrees in Physics (BS) and Electrical engineering (MSEE) from San Diego State University, and an MBA from University of California, San Diego. He serves on the board as SDSU and also is involved with many Charities at the board level. Rich has been a technical advisor to Public Wireless since 2004 and involved with business development for the company.
Dr. Stephen Bates
Stephen Bates is a world class expert on the design of LDPC and other FEC decoders. Stephen founded Raithlin Semiconductor (www.raithlin.com) in 2005 to focus on delivering quality algorithm development services and IP to the semiconductor industry. Previous to Raithlin, Stephen was a professor at the University of Alberta’s (UofA’s) department of Electrical and Computer Engineering where he was affiliated with the ICORE High Capacity Digital Communications Lab. .His research focused on bridging the domain between algorithm development and silicon implementation. At UofA he went on to lead a team of over 10 graduate students and was awarded both an NSERC discovery grant and a SRC research grant.
Prior to the University of Alberta, Stephen worked for Massana Ltd, a company specializing in the design of Gigabit Ethernet transceivers. Massana was acquired in 2003 by Agere Inc.. Stephen holds a 1st class BEng and PhD from the University of Edinburgh. During his time at the university he was awarded the Horsborough Prize for excellence in applied mathematics. Stephen is a senior member of the IEEE and a professional engineer of Canada.
