Management Team

Roger Bertschmann, M.Sc., P.Eng.

President

Roger is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in wired and wireless communications and semiconductor design. He was a co-founder of SiWorks Inc. (acquired by Cygnus/Nextwave), a leading wireless IP provider, and Dynastream Inc (acquired by Garmin). Roger is also a venture partner with iNovia Capital (www.inoviacapital.com), an early-stage high-tech venture capital fund.

Prior to founding Rad3, he worked at Cygnus Communications, a subsidiary of Nextwave Wireless, where he was the Director of Engineering and SiWorks where he was President. Roger also worked at Novatel Wireless and the Telecommunications Design Center of Philips Semiconductor in Zurich, Switzerland where he was one of the principal engineers working on the design of highly integrated GSM and digital cordless baseband controllers. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and an M.Sc. from the University of Calgary.

Peter Graumann, M.Sc.

CTO

Peter has over 18 years of experience in the design of OFDM modems, Forward Error Correction (FEC) decoders and digital circuit design and synthesis. He is considered to be one of the leading experts on the design of WiMax OFDM modems and the implementation of Turbo, Viterbi and Reed-Solomon decoders. Prior to founding Rad3, Peter worked as a Principal Engineer at Nextwave Wireless's Cygnus subsidiary where he helped develop Nextwave's WiMax CPE and Basestation products.

Peter was a co-founder of SiWorks which was acquired by Cygnus in 2005. Prior to founding Rad3 Peter was employed at Novatel Wireless and at the University of Calgary as a research engineer where he specialized in the implementation of digital signal processing algorithms using serial arithmetic. Peter is the author of several patents and pending patents in the areas of OFDM modem design, FEC and FFT processing. He holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary.

Sean Gibb, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Director, Software

Sean is a software professional with over 15 years of experience developing and leading complex software development projects. Prior to founding Rad3 he was a Senior Staff Engineer at Nextwave Wireless's Cygnus Communications subsidiary where he focused on the WiMax system design for Nextwave's CPE and Basestation products. At SiWorks he performed R&D for the development of various IP cores including the WiMax OFDM modem and FFT products. He is an expert on Software Defined Radio and has extensive experience designing and implementing signal processing algorithms on various hardware platforms.

Sean is also a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary and has previously taught courses in software and digital system design. Sean is an author of several novel patents on FFT architectures and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary where he specialized in the automatic generation of application specific processors.

Tim Lupick, MSc

Director, Hardware

Tim has been involved in hardware design for wireless applications for over 12 years. Prior to founding Rad3, he was a Senior Staff Engineer for Nextwave Wireless's Cygnus subsidiary where he worked on the design and implementation of WiMax OFDM modems . At SiWorks he developed WiMax and WiFi OFDM modem IP which was subsequently licensed to numerous fabless semiconductor and wireless basestation companies.

Prior to SiWorks, Tim worked at Ericsson Mobile Data Systems in Sweden and helped developed their 802.11a WiFi ASIC's. Tim holds an M.Sc. from the Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden and a B.Sc. from the University of Calgary.
